POLICE & FIREFIGHTERS SUPPORT MIKE BARBANICA FOR SUPERVISOR
Keeping our families safe is Mike Barbanica’s top priority.
Mike, a retired Pittsburg Police Lieutenant, knows the meaning of hard work, rising from a cadet level all the way to the lieutenant rank. His personally-run street-level Narcotics and Crime Unit slashed crime in the city by 23%. As a detective, he cracked down on sexual assault and crimes against women and children, and ran the Pittsburg’s Police Department traffic unit, investigating fatal crashes, advocating for safety for all families on the road.
During his work with the K-9 Unit, Mike worked with trained police dogs to keep city streets safe. After the horrifying events of 9/11, Mike had the honor of leading Pittsburg’s Emergency Operations Center, working directly with the FBI to protect all families in our community.
Mike served as a police officer for 21 years in his community before retiring in 2007.1
While serving as a police officer, Mike bravely risked his life in order to take down and arrest an active shooter at a local grocery store, earning him the Bronze Medal of Valor for this courageous act.
